Paul and Debbie Pucci own The Randville Bar & Grill in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and asked me to create a new logo and website to promote the restaurant.
A NEW LOGO WITH A STORIED PAST.
The Randville Bar & Grill is an Iron Mountain classic. It's home to the best fish fry in the U.P., and one of the best cheese pizzas I've ever had. But despite owning it for a decade, Paul and Debbie Pucci had never established an official logo or needed a website. That is, until the Coronavirus Pandemic forced many Michigan restaurants to close and they found themselves needing to promote the restaurant.
The Randville is in an historic part of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and rests along railroad tracks that once serviced the lumber mills and iron mines in the area decades ago. The restaurant has become a local favorite and hotspot for snowmobilers, ATV-ers, hunters, and fishers, and has a distinct Northwoods vibe which makes everyone of them feel at home. So it was important to make sure the logo wasn't too precious and that it felt like it embodied the heritage of the bar and grill, and the history of region.
A WEBSITE IN A WEEKEND.
Because of the need to get something up fast, I was able to create the website from start to finish in the course of a weekend. I started building the site directly in Wix on a Friday night and by Monday morning was transferring ownership of the site to Paul and Debbie.
The design of the site was inspired by the hunter orange and forest green colors in the logo, and with the aim of creating a site that has more gills than frills. I took some photos of the restaurant's interior and exterior with my phone the last time I was there, so I peppered those throughout the site along with a photo of the bar from the early 20th Century that became the site's main image. The site was built on Wix and utilizes their built-in restaurant management and menu tools.
